A dairy share is simply a way for someone to purchase a goat or cow or both and enjoy the products from that animal. Many people can not own animals other than dogs and cats due to zoning in metro areas! Other people may have allergies, physical problems, time constraints, or whatever personal reasons to not be able to own and care for a goat or cow on their own property.
ALL dairy share owners are urged to visit their animals and see how the animals are cared for, milked, what they are fed, where they sleep, etc. Just call to make arrangements at the farm to meet the animals. Bring "barn" clothes so you can help with the milking, feeding, and cleaning!
All dairy share owners have input as to changes in the dairy. Currently the share owners wanted changes of no soy or vaccinations in the animals providing milk or meat. We have made those changes and will work on others as they come up.
Share owners are urged to learn as much as they can about raw milk (the milk coming from the animal has not been processed in any way). Some links to get started are:
If you feel you should pasteurize your milk, there are several links on the web to teach you how to do this at home or you can purchase a home pasteurizer for around $400.
